What to Do After Your Nonfiction Book Is Published

Publication is not the finish line. Here is how to keep momentum with reviews, outreach, content, and reader relationships.

Publishing day feels like an ending, but for a nonfiction book it is the point where readers can finally find and use it. What you do next shapes how far the book travels.

Check the basics first

  • Read your retail page as a new reader would, including the description, subtitle, and author bio
  • Make sure your website and email sign-up link to the right places
  • Confirm that your reader bonus is easy to find and works

Ask real readers for reviews

Invite readers, launch-team members, and event attendees to share honest reviews. Make it easy by linking directly to the review page. Never buy reviews or pressure readers.

Keep the conversation going

  • Follow up with podcasts, journalists, and organizations you contacted before launch
  • Turn the book’s ideas into articles, talks, short videos, and newsletters
  • Share reader questions and answer them in public
  • Look for workshops, book clubs, and community events

Track what is working

Note which channels bring website visits, email sign-ups, and meaningful conversations. Put more time into what works and less into what does not.

Plan the next chapter

A book can lead to a workshop, a course, a speaking topic, a partnership, or a future book. Start thinking about the next step while the first one is still fresh.
